Phantom Twin Inspires at Dorky’s Bar Arcade 1-year Anniversary

Lakewood band plays at the 1-year anniversary of Dorky's Arcade Bar in downtown Tacoma.

The crowd plays various arcade games while browsing local art. Dorky’s Bar Arcade aka “Barcade" is located in the heart of downtown Tacoma on Pacific Avenue and celebrated its 1-year annivesary on Sept. 17. The headline of the night’s escapades was “Phantom Twin.”

Now if you haven’t heard of Phantom Twin, a Lakewood band,  allow me to introduce the “Synthpop” sensation.  It is comprised of three fun-loving and insightful guys who have been playing together since 2008. There is the lead vocalist Brandon Beauchesne. Chris Eudaily plays the keyboard, and Nicholas Chappell plays on another set of keyboards.

Before the show started, I had a chance to speak to the band. I asked them about their thoughts on Pierce County's music scene and what inspires them, the hardships of their genre or the kinds of music they play.

“Music just gives us the opportunity to express ourselves and overcome the everyday struggles of life.” Chappell said. “In the past people have compared us to a modern day Depeche mode or a modern day Billy Idol, and that really makes all of us feel good about what we make.”

“We are pretty chill, laid-back people. We would love for people to hang out with us after the show and really tell us what they think," says Beauchesne. “We just honestly want people to come out and dance and have a good time and gather some form of inspiration from our music, that is the ultimate goal of what we are trying to do.”

“It’s just hard finding a niche is the Northwest music scene for what we do," Eudaily added. “I really think our love for music and overall determination towards our dream of creating music is what really keeps us going.”

They all added the biggest struggle behind being a musician was finding the time in their busy lifestyles to create the music they love. You would never tell when they graced the stage. They opened with the song “Great Big Lights.” The whole crowd begun to warm up to the dance floor as they all wooed them with their stage presence. Soon through the set the whole place was moving and various crowds of people were throwing themselves into a dancing rage.

All good things must come to an end as they closed the night with Beauchesne's personal favorite “Lose Control.” You can see it in their eyes as the song broke down. These three friends were all doing what they truly love and the goal for the night was accomplished. Everyone was in a dancing rage with large smiles painted across their faces.

And to think it all happened, between work, slight of hand magic, viral videos, photography and cooking. They are always booking shows and reaching their musical hand across the greater Northwest. The group later added, ”without music we would be sad, uninspired and complacent people.” We am personally glad that this is not the case.
