Pierce College Board of Trustees Welcomes Angie Roarty

Lakewood insurance agent Angie Roarty is appointed to college district board.

Angie Roarty, local insurance agent and longtime education advocate, has been appointed to the Pierce College Board of Trustees by Gov. Chris Gregoire.

Roarty and her family have lived in Lakewood for eight years. She is the daughter of a career military family and thoroughly understands, and has a commitment to, both public education and community service.

“The greatest intangible value of higher education is that a student is able to broaden their perspective of the world through intellectual exchange with peers and faculty, and through their experience at college,” said Roarty. “We need a highly educated workforce to build a strong, self-sustaining community.  Pierce College provides an affordable means to meet this challenge of the future. Serving on the Board of Trustees allows me to reinvest in the community and to be part of helping students achieve success.”

“I am very pleased to have Angie join the board,” added Pierce College Chancellor Michele Johnson. “She is a well-respected and engaged member of our community, and I look forward to the contributions she will make to the board.”

Roarty has been an insurance agent with State Farm since 1989; she’s been a self-employed agent since 2008. She has a bachelor’s degree in communications management from the University of Portland. She is active in her community and a member of many professional and civic organizations, including the Lakewood and Steilacoom Chamber of Commerce, Women Business Owners, Filipino Community Alliance, Pierce County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Lakewood Communities in School. She chairs the St. Francis Cabrini School Commission.
