Pierce College Scholarship Scramble Nets More Than $50,000 For Student Scholarships

The annual Pierce College golf tournament raised enough money to pay for 50 quarters of education for students.

A packed field of 129 golfers converged on High Cedars Golf Club on July 28 for the 18th Annual Pierce College Scholarship Scramble. This year’s event raised more than $50,000 ($7,000 more than the previous year) for student scholarships. A record $9,500 was raised through direct donations alone.

The total amount raised at this year’s scramble is enough to pay for 50 quarters of education for deserving students at Pierce College.

“There’s no denying that the Scholarship Scramble is a lot of fun. Our golfers get to play a great course and spend a gorgeous day outside, playing games and having a fantastic time. But, it’s so much more than that,” said Suzy Ames, executive director of the Pierce College Foundation, which hosts the annual golf scramble. “Supporting the scramble means supporting the hard work of Pierce College students and that’s a really satisfying experience in itself. That’s why players come back year after year.”

This year’s notable teams included Korum Nissan, which won the event, and the team led by Pierce College District Chancellor Michele Johnson, which won the mixed division.

Waste Connections was the title sponsor for the seventh straight year. More than 75 students, employees, and Foundation board members volunteered their time to manage the event.
