Vote Yes for Our Children

Patch blogger Robert Pangaro encourages Lakewood residents to vote yes in the Clover Park School District replacement levy on Feb. 12.

On Feb. 14th voters will have the chance to help fund the for the next four years. There is a that all registered voters can vote on.

I implore all of you to vote yes for this Levy. It will keep the schools running smoothly for the next few years. Here is a breakdown of exactly how the budget will be spent so that you see that it is in the best interest of of the kids.

  • Classroom support (80 percent) — Classroom support will help maintain reduced class sizes, purchase of textbooks and classroom instructional materials, support of school libraries, student academic/career guidance and health room assistance including counselors, nurses and health clerks, educational program improvements (Gifted, ELL, special education and assessments) and districtwide teaching and learning activities, including training.

  • School maintenance and operations (12 percent) — This part support the building maintenance (painting, roofing, flooring and lighting), custodians, grounds maintenance, student transportation, food services and classroom furniture.

  • School technology (7 percent) — Technology will improve classroom computers, instructional software, upgraded wiring and Internet access costs.

  • Safety and security (1 percent) — This small precentage will reinforce school resources officers, campus supervisors, fire alarms and facility/property security systems.
  • As you can see 80 percent of this funding will go directly into the classrooms. I ask you not to vote yes for the politics but to vote yes for the future of our children's education.
