Why is Lakes Lancers on Facebook?

A little 'bout Lake Lancers and local media ...

I was a Lake Louise Cougar and Mann Mustang before I was a Lakes Lancer.

When I was a young boy attending , my teachers would make inspirational comments about the sports articles in the Suburban Times or the Tacoma News Tribune. Often times, a classmate’s sibling, a sibling’s friend or my sibling would be highlighted in the local paper for scoring a touchdown, winning an athletic event in an impressive manner or shutting down   Clover Park's star player.

At , after a athletic event, I anticipated reading the sports highlights in the papers. Occasionally, I would see my name amongst the sports headlines: Mann Carves Up Woodbrook or Mann Handles Hudtloff.

But my name or the names of my junior high school friends in the local paper paled in comparison to see my siblings’ names or their friends’ names in the local papers. When I attended Lakes High School, occasionally, like my siblings before me, my name would appear in the papers for football, soccer or both.

I always searched the Tacoma News Tribune, Seattle Post Intelligencer, Seattle Times or Spokesman-Review for collegiate sporting news regarding my siblings and their friends.

After I graduated from Lakes and relocated to Pullman to attended Washington State University, I would scan the sports sections of major media publications for any information on Lakes athletics and their current student-athletes. When I enlisted in the military, from global locations, I searched for information regarding Lakes athletics because my niece participated in Lakes volleyball, basketball and track for several years.

Now, decades later, I find myself with the ability to touch yesteryear, reconnect alumni and inspire pending and current students by managing the Lakes Lancers fan page on Facebook.
