Clover Park Kiwanis Continues Hard Work in the Community Garden

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Clover Park continue to harvest hundreds of pounds of produce in the Lakewood Community Garden. All produce from the garden is donated to Lakewood’s FISH Food Bank. Last year, Clover Park Kiwanis donated 1,100 pounds, and they seem well on their way to reaching their goal of 1,500 pounds this year. To help achieve this goal, one raised garden has been planted with potatoes. Other vegetables planted include tomatoes, lettuce, swiss chard, broccoli, kale, and the always popular zucchini. 

There are still 2 garden plots available for community members to rent.  There is a $20 yearly rental fee for each plot. This is a great opportunity to begin a fun, economical, and nutritious gardening adventure. Garden tools and water are available. The Lakewood Community Garden is located in back of the former Lakewood Police Station just off 112th Street. Lakewood First Baptist Church now owns that property and donated a portion to the City of Lakewood for a community garden. Running and maintaining the Community Garden is just one of many fun things that Clover Park Kiwanis does. We, at Kiwanis, direct our service towards community and youth. We are always looking for individuals who want to serve. Lakewood’s youth and community are always in need of help. Come down to the Ram Restaurant at 10019 59th Ave SW, Lakewood any Tuesday from 12:00-1:00 PM and see what Kiwanis is all about. Lunch is provided for first-timers.
