Daffodil Princesses: Clover Park School District Sends Pair to Saturday's Event

Clover Park's Shawnice Davis and Lakes' Rio Marquez-Hammitt presented speech on Spirit of Adventure.

Clover Park and Lakes High Schools selected their 2010-11 Daffodil Princesses during two separate ceremonies. Clover Park’s Shawnice Davis and Lakes’ Rio Marquez- Hammitt were crowned princesses after answering an impromptu question and presenting a speech on this year’s theme, β€œSpirit of Adventure.”

Both will appear at the Princess Promenade, an event that begins the official reign of the Daffodil Festival Royal Court and is the first Full Court appearance. It's scheduled for 7 p.m. tomorrow at the McGavick Conference Center on the Clover Park Technical College campus.

Davis, 18, is an avid athlete and plays volleyball, basketball and runs track at Clover
Park. She’s also a member of the National Honor Society and the International Club.

Outside of school, she is an assistant cheerleading coach and library assistant on
McChord Field. Davis also volunteers for the Splash Reader Program, is a member
of the Puget Creek Restoration and an assistant at POV Shipping in Tacoma.

After graduation she plans to attend the University of Washington or Florida State University to obtain a doctoral degree in psychology, studying the pathological behaviors in children and adults. Davis loves to shop in vintage boutiques, attend local events and dances, travel to Seattle with her family and find new food stops with friends.

Marquez-Hammitt, 18, is a member of Lakes’ studio and concert choirs, she is an
Ignite Executive Mentor and member of DECA and National Honor Society. Marquez-Hammitt is a tennis player at Lakes and is a member of the St. Frances Cabrini Youth Group.

After graduation she plans to attend a local four-year college to study civil
engineering. In her free time, Marquez-Hammitt enjoys backpacking, singing, baking cookies, walking her dog and playing her flute.
