Deputy Recovering From Broken Neck After Crash

A Pierce County Sheriff's deputy suffered a fractured vertebrae when an intoxicated driver struck her vehicle last week.

PARKLAND, WA - The Pierce County Sheriff's Office reported that a deputy who was seriously injured in a crash last week was expected to be released from the hospital Monday. The deputy, Sydney Davis, was struck by an intoxicated driver Thursday night. She suffered a fractured vertebrae in the collision.

According to police, Deputy Davis and two other patrol units were traveling northbound on Pacific Avenue as they responded to a priority domestic violence call. Her vehicle was struck by a Kia leaving a tavern parking lot, causing her car to roll down an embankment.

The driver admitted to smoking marijuana and his blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit, police said. He was booked on suspicion of vehicular assault and driving under the influence.
