Driver In Wrong-Way I-5 Crash Near Lakewood Identified

Police have identified the man who caused a crash on I-5 near SR 512 in December.

LAKEWOOD, WA - State police have identified the man who they say caused a two-car crash along I-5 near the SR 512 interchange in late December.

Washington State Patrol identified the driver as Oscar Sanabria, 38, of Tacoma. He is being held in the Pierce County Jail on $1 million bail on charges of rape and kidnapping. He is also being held on a charge of vehicular assault. Tacoma police spokesperson Loretta Cool has said that the car Sanabria was driving was stolen.

On Dec. 26 at around 7 a.m., Sanabria was allegedly driving a Nissan Versa northbound in the southbound lanes of I-5 near SR 512. Sanabria collided head-on with a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old Tacoma man. Sanabria suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Madigan Army Medical Center for treatment.
