Elections Update: Paul Bocchi Files for City Council

Clover Park School Board District President Walt Kellcy Jr. will vacate his seat along with City Council members Walter Neary and Claudia Thomas.

November elections in Lakewood are underway and candidates have begun filing for public office or announcing their decision for reelection.

Lakewood City Council

Paul Bocchi filed for Position No. 7 for the City Council, currently held by Walter Neary who chose to step down. Neary will have served two terms totaling eight years on the board. (position No. 6) will also vacate her seat after having served 16 years and one of the first members on the original City Council.

Lakewood resident Marie Barth has filed for position No. 6 and is so far running unopposed. Lakewood Deputy Mayor Don Anderson (position No. 4) has filed for reelection. He is running unopposed, so far.

Clover Park School District Board members (District No. 2 position) and Paul Wagemann (District No. 5 position) have filed for reelection. Both incumbents have not received any competition, but it's still early in the election game.

CPSD Board President . announced he will vacate his seat (Disrict position No. 1) at the end of the year after serving the district for a decade. That seat will be voted on by the new board at the end of the November elections.

For nonpartisan positions, if three or more candidates file for a single position, voters will decide in the primary election which two candidates will face each other in November. Patch will update the Lakewood-related candidate filings throughout the week.

Online candidate filing closes at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 10, and in-person filing closes at 4:30 p.m. Candidates can also contact Pierce County Elections, 253-798-VOTE (8683), 800-446-4979 if they have questions.
