Pierce Transit Worker Killed At Lakewood Bus Base

The Pierce Transit was hit by a bus exiting a washing area, Pierce Transit officials say.

LAKEWOOD, WA - A Pierce Transit employee was killed Tuesday night at the bus base in Lakewood after being hit by a bus.

West Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to the bus based near South Tacoma Way and 96th Street around 6:30 p.m. on a report of a person trapped under a bus. When they arrived, Pierce Transit employees had used a forklift to lift the bus off the employee. Paramedics pronounced the Pierce Transit employee dead at the scene.

Pierce Transit spokesperson Alice Sastle said that the bus was leaving a bus wash and was rounding a corner when it hit the employee.

"The employee was not visible," she said.

Two West Pierce chaplains were at the bus base providing grief counseling to employees.
