FREE Tax Assistance & Filing Starts Saturday, Feb 8

FREE TAX ASSISTANCE AND FILING IS AVAILABLE for low and moderate income singles and families Saturday, Feb. 8 (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) at
Tacoma Goodwill's Milgard Work Opportunity Center, 714 S. 27th St., Tacoma, WA.  To minimize wait time, scheduling an appointment is recommended (phone 253.573.6698).

The free
service is to encourage more persons to take advantage of special tax credits
for which they may qualify this year such as the Earned Income Tax Credit,
Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.

Following
Super Refund Saturday, the partnership will continue offering free tax
preparation at Milgard for families earning up to $52,000 / year every Tuesday,
Wednesday & Thursday (3:30 – 7 p.m.) through April 15.  Visit  www.tacomagoodwill.org for more
information.

“One
out of five eligible Americans miss out
on claiming the Earned Income Tax
Credit and other deductions allowed by the tax code,” said Terry Hayes, CEO of
Tacoma Goodwill.  “Our partnership with Key Bank, the Pierce County

Building Coalition and VITA this year allows us to provide a free tax service

to ensure families and individuals receive all their entitlements.”

Last year, the Goodwill Milgard Work Opportunity Center Super Refund Saturday
event completed 88 tax returns with total refunds reaching over $171,000.
In the U.S. last year, more than $1 billion in Earned Income Tax Credits were
unclaimed by singles and families with children.  Maximum refunds
resulting from the EITC can range anywhere from $487 to $6,044 for families,

depending on income and family size.

“Filing an
income tax return can be challenging and intimidating,” said Mike Fait, vice
president and Community Reinvestment Act Manager for Washington.  “The IRS
estimates the average taxpayer spent 23 hours on last year’s tax return. Super Refund Saturday is Key Bank’s way to help taxpayers ensure that no
entitlement slips through the cracks.  It’s part of KeyBank’s commitment

to local communities.”

Key Bank is
also working with other partners at two
additional Super Refund Saturday events
on February 8th.
