Girls Basketball: Scoring Woes Continue For Clover Park in 45-31 Loss Against Fife

Fife forward Ciara Pedroni exploits an undersized Warriors squad Tuesday night in Lakewood.

Fife senior Ciara Pedroni scored a game-high 19 points and Jocinda Fox contributed 11 as the Trojans dominated the paint against the Warriors Tuesday night at Clover Park High School in a 45-31 victory.

Pedroni, a 6-foot-2-inch forward, scored 10 of the team's 16 points in the opening quarter. Fife jumped out to an early double-digit lead with 2 minutes, 22 seconds and ran away with the game.

Clover Park struggled finding high-percentage shots. They converted four field goals in the first half and were out-rebounded. They opened the second half with another sluggish start, scoring just two field goals while the Trojans (8-8 overall, 5-5 South Puget Sound League 2A) kept pace with six, respectively.

The Warriors (3-10 overall, 2-8 league) have lost four consecutive games as they travel to Sumner to play the Spartans on Friday. Their last victory came against Steilacoom on Jan. 10.

Clover Park senior Danielle Pritchard, sophomore Jessica Pena and Joy Failauga all tied for a team-high eight points. Led by Pritchard, who sank a pair of three-pointers, the Warriors closed the game by scoring 13 points in the final quarter.

The Trojans, however, scored double figures in the first three quarters and built a 39-18 lead heading into the fourth. Clover Park could have kept the game within reach if they'd attacked the basket and reached the free-throw line.

In the contest they were 6-for-8 at the charity stripe compared with Fife, who was 7-of-12.

Warriors head coach Anthony Crawford said that their post game has been a key reason why they have been unsuccessful this year. Their tallest player on varsity is 5-foot-10 Pena. But Clover Park should receive some added help in the paint when 6-foot freshman Zykera Rice becomes eligible next year.
