Got Stuff? Tomorrow is City's Annual Junk In the Trunk Sale At City Hall
Spaces still available in parking lot; for $15, sellers get a spot in which to sell their old clothes, toys and more.
Lakewood residents: Open your trunk, and bring on the junk.
Tomorrow marks the second annual Junk In the Trunk garage sale, sponsored by the City of Lakewood’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services department. The sale opens to the public at 8:30 a.m., and sellers can start setting up an hour earlier. It will end at 5 p.m., provided that everything isn’t sold by then.
“It gotten bigger each time,” said Suzi Riley, Parks and Recreation administrative assistant. “It’s another thing we’re trying to do to being people into the Towne Center.”

The sale will be held on the side of City Hall where the Farmers Market is on Tuesdays, and for $15, sellers get one parking space in which to sell their items. There is no limit on the number of spaces a person can purchase; as of Friday, there were 22 of 55 left. Sellers can set up tables, pop-tents, tarps – or their actual trunks – to sell old clothes, toys, household goods and more.
On-site registrations are available. Cash and credit card are the accepted methods of payment. Admission to shop is free.

“People can register in the morning, so if they all of a sudden see it and say, ‘Gee, I’m going to bring my stuff,’ they can,” Riley said.
There will be a second Junk In the Trunk sale on Aug. 18. The sale drew about 20 sellers in its inaugural year last August. It was borne of Pierce County’s annual sale, which has grown so much that it is now held at three different sites.
Riley said her department hopes the sale will lure people into Lakewood Towne Center’s stores, too.
“Hopefully, they’ll come (to the sale),” she said, “and then go buy new stuff, too.”
