Semi Crash On I-5 In Lakewood Causes Long Backups
The semitrailer hit the jersey barrier and was blocking lanes in both directions.
UPDATE: As of 11:30 a.m. Monday, all lanes had reopened.
LAKEWOOD, WA - A semitrailer crashed along I-5 in Lakewood Monday just before 9 a.m. and was blocking both north and southbound lanes. The crashed happened near Bridgeport Way. The semitrailer was traveling southbound, but hit jersey barriers in the center of the highway, creating the blockage.
West Pierce fire reported that one person was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the semi suffered a medical problem shortly before the crash, according to Washington State Patrol.

As of 10 a.m., lanes in the vicinity of Bridgeport Way were still blocked, and drivers were urged to avoid the area or use alternate routes, like South Tacoma Way.
