JBLM Artillery Fire Exercises Will Begin Monday

Lakewood residents might hear mortar fire all next week beginning Monday morning.

LAKEWOOD, WA - Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldiers will be training with artillery all next week beginning on Monday, and the Army is warning base neighbors that the firing might get loud.

Soldiers will be training during the day and night next week and will be firing M777 155mm Howitzer field artillery, and 60mm, 81mm, and 120 mm mortars. The training hours will be:

  • Monday, March 27, 6:30 a.m., through Friday, March 31, 9:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 4, 10 p.m., through Wednesday, April 5, 7 a.m.

The units training on the artillery include: 2nd Infantry Division, Division Artillery; 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment; 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, and an element of U.S. Army Special Operations Command.
