JBLM Training May Cause Explosive Noises This Week

Any loud noises you hear could be from JBLM's mortar and demolitons training.

LAKEWOOD, WA — The City of Lakewood is telling residents that if they hear an explosion in the night, it's probably from training over at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

JBLM has announced plans for mortar and demolitions training running from 12 a.m. Tuesday through midnight Friday. For the training, army units will be firing live munitious into the impact area south of JBLM main. The base says these explosions can often be heard in nearby towns.

The training does include programs at night, which could be especially alarming after the recent unrest and protests in nearby cities like Seattle and Olympia. That's why the city wants to make sure everybody knows: if you hear a loud explosion at night, it very likely could just be from this routine training.
