Kids at Hope – A Mentoring Month Moment

“Pledge” is a funny sort-of word. Possibly it comes from the Latin “plevium” meaning “security” and then went through turbulent mills of French and Anglo-Saxon change to become what it is today.  From Merriam-Webster –    : a serious promise or agreement    : a promise to give money   : something that you leave with another person as a way to show that you will keep your promise.

Here are two pledges that have taken root in Lakewood for both our youth and those who work every day to bring out the best in them.

All Children are Capable of Success, No Exceptions!

Treasure Hunter’s Pledge

As an adult and a Treasure Hunter

I am committed to search for all the talents, skills and intelligence

that exists in all children and youth.

I believe all children are capable of success,

No Exceptions!

Here in Lakewood, adults have opportunities to become treasure hunters, acquiring skills and understanding that it takes to work with our diverse and exceptional youth.  Kids at Hope provides valuable training to pass on these skills.  From their website….

Kids at Hope offers professional development services and implementation strategies for schools and youth organizations interested in adopting a cultural strategic framework in support of the success of all children, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Kids at Hope is a not for profit organization and is interested in working with all institutions, agencies, programs and communities wishing to ensure the success of all youth, without exception. Kids at Hope will provide financial assistance when and where needed to support the interest and commitment of any group or individual interested in the Kids at Hope initiative.

Earning a Certificate in Hopeology and a Diploma in Treasure Hunting from Kids at Hope sounds pretty cool – a great thing to hang on the office wall.  But even better is making, keeping, and wholeheartedly believing in a pledge to children that they will succeed.  (And of course, they will – no exceptions.)
