Judo Club Shines At Junior Nationals, Brings Home Team Record 17 Medals

Next up is the USA Judo Junior Olympics in 10 days.

Ippon Judo Dojo of Lakewood won a team record 17 medals at last weekend's Junior Nationals in Spokane. The 21 competitors earned five gold medals among them. 

Patrick Mendiola, 16, also won the Sportsmanship Award.

The team is headed for the USA Judo Junior Olympics later this month.

Gold medalists: Tatiana Parker-Borerro (9), Saisha Morales (9), Aizayah Yacapin (11), Isaac Harai (12) and Mendiola.

Silver medalists: Melissa Mercado (8), Lahna Harai (9), MaryAnn Mercado (11), Michaela Borerro (11), Santino (Manny) Borerro-Lewis (11), Jasmine Parker-Borerro (12), Malcolm Martin (15), Davon Johnson (15) Kiaya Van Scoyoc (16).

Bronze Medalists: Liam Ortega-Absher (7), Tyriq Johnson (13), Nathaniel Christian Williams (13).
