Free urban homesteading workshops are scheduled in May and June.

The will host free urban homesteading workshops in May and June to help people learn practical skills for a sustainable, self-sufficient lifestyle.
Container Gardening: Thursday, May 17, 6:30 p.m.
Master Gardener Deb Bronken will share how to select plants and containers to build vibrant, diverse container gardens filled with herbs and decorative plants.
Backyard Chickens: Saturday, May 19, Noon
People who wish for a never-ending supply of fresh eggs will discover how to get started keeping chickens in their backyard. The workshop will cover a wide range of topics, such as how to buy chicks as well as housing and feeding.

Beekeeping: Thursday, May 31, 6:30 p.m.
Renzy Davenport of the Pierce County Beekeepers Association leads this workshop on beginning beekeeping. Participants will learn where to buy bees and a hive, and what to do once they have them.
Canning and Pickling Basics: Saturday, June 2, Noon
Fresh produce lovers will taste delicious samples and learn how to save available crops for later in the year with canning and pickling.
