Lakewood Man Involved In Wrong-Way Accident On I-5

The crash happened just before 5 a.m. Sunday near JBLM, according to Washington State Patrol.

LAKEWOOD, WA - A local man was involved in an accident early Sunday morning after he was allegedly driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5. The accident involved three cars, but only the wrong-way driver and one other driver were injured.

Police say that a 41-year-old Lakewood man was driving south in the northbound lanes around 4:45 a.m. Sunday when he hit another driver near exit 120 and the Joint Base Lewis-McChord main entrance. According to Washington State Patrol, the wrong-way car hit a car driven by 24-year-old Ryan Mullins of Lacey.

The Tacoma News-Tribune reported that the 41-year-old Lakewood man fled the scene of the crash, but was captured near the scene by Pierce County deputies.

Behind Mullins was a car driven by Marin and Andrew Davis, both of Lacey; their car hit debris left by the crash between the other two involved cars. They were not injured. Both Wheeler and Mullins were taken to St. Clare hospital for treatment.

The crash is still under investigation.
