Lakewood Police Kill Man Who Called 911 To Report Intruder

The 43-year-old victim called police to report an armed man in his home. When police arrived, they found the caller was the armed man.

LAKEWOOD, WA - A 43-year-old man was shot and killed by Lakewood police early Sunday morning after he called 911 to report an intruder. But the 911 caller, police said, turned out to be the only person in the home.

Just before 3:30 a.m., a man called police to report an intruder armed with a knife in an apartment along the 6400 block of 88th Street Court Southwest. As police were on their way to the apartment, the caller continued to update the 911 dispatcher, reporting that the apparent intruder also had a gun.

Soon after arriving at the scene, the 911 caller allegedly charged at the officers while holding a knife, according to Lakewood police.

"When officers arrived, a male subject charged at the officers with a knife. Three officers fired their weapons. The officers immediately rendered aid on the subject and requested the Fire Department priority. Unfortunately, the subject died at the scene," the department reported in a press release.

Police believe that there never was an armed intruder. The apartment was empty other than the victim.
