Man Accused Of Killing 3 On I-5 Was On Drugs, Texting: Court Docs
After police told Montrell Red, 23, he had caused a crash that left three people dead, he told them, "I didn't mean to."

LAKEWOOD, WA - The man accused of causing a horrific crash along I-5 that left three people dead made an appearance in court Friday. Montrell Red, 23, was looking at his phone and was high on Xanax and his at the time of the crash, according to court documents.
The crash happened Thursday just after 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-5 in Lakewood. Red allegedly crossed several lanes of traffic and hit a Honda CRV being driven by Jaime Pelayo-Pelayo, 30, of Kelso. The CRV flipped over, hit the New York Avenue overpass, and came to a rest on its roof in the middle of the highway. Pelayo-Pelayo and his two passengers died at the scene, according to police.
Red drove away from the scene of the crash, according to court documents, and police caught up to him in Lakewood along Lake Avenue. When an officer told him about the three deaths, he told her, "I didn't mean to."

When police searched Red's car, according to documents, they found marijuana, a pink handgun, and Xanax, a powerful sedative. Red allegedly told police that he was using Xanax at the time of the crash.
At a Friday court appearance, Red pleaded not guilty to three counts of vehicular homicide and failing to stay at the scene of an accident.
