Man Hit By Train Near Steilacoom

Firefighters say a man had to be airlifted to Seattle for emergency treatment after he was hit by a train near the waterfront.

LAKEWOOD, WA — A man is in the hospital in critical condition after he was hit by a train Tuesday afternoon.

According to firefighters with West Pierce Fire, the man was hit by a train in the Steilacoom area near the water at around 4 p.m. The victim may have been hit into the water, because when first responders arrived they called in a fire boat to rescue him and bring him to shore.

Shortly after being taken aground, first responders rushed him into a helicopter to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle to be treated for his wounds. It's still unclear how the man was hit by the train in the first place, and how he ended up in the water by the time firefighters arrived.
