Man Tries to Rob Spanaway A&W, Flees Naked From Deputies
Investigators said they believe the man had been using narcotics.
SPANAWAY, WA -- On Saturday night, a man demanded cash from the registers at an A&W restaurant, tried to hit employees, then stripped off his clothes and fled, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. Several deputies were called to the Pacific Avenue restaurant shortly before 8 p.m.
On the way, they were told the suspect had removed his clothing and was last seen running down the road. When they found the man, deputies said he jumped up and ran at them. Deputies used a taser on the man and handcuffed him, believing he was under the influence of drugs. The man had wounds on his head, which were believed to be a result of the scuffle at the restaurant. Deputies took the man to a nearby hospital, before booking him into jail on suspicion of 1st degree robbery.
The Spanaway incident was one of several in Pierce County on Saturday night. In a social media post Monday, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department recounted a half dozen calls throughout their region, including an incident near Ashford where a mother and son led deputies on a brief police chase after a confrontation with the boy's grandfather.
