Whiz Kid's accomplishment: Ahmaad, a sophomore, is a star guard for the reigning 2A state-champion Warriors basketball team, averaging 18 points a game. He balances his athletic prowess with academics, maintaining a 3.8 grade-point average. In his spare time, he is a member of Clover Park’s National Honor Society and plays AAU basketball for the Northwest Panthers.

Once his days in green and gold are over, Ahmaad plans to study sports media and play basketball at a Division I college such Connecticut or Marquette University. After a standout freshman season where he averaged 13.8 points per game, Ahmaad received a letter of interest from Washington State University.

Whiz Kid's key to awesomeness: Ahmaad said that he has found success through working hard all of the time. Returning as a veteran on the state-championship team feels “really good,” he said.

“It just motivates me to obtain the same goal as last year – the state championship.”

But his favorite thing about basketball isn’t the competitive drive – it is the promise of what could come in the future.

“I have a chance to make a lot of money to support my mom,” he said. “My mom, Rhonetta Thomas, has done everything for me. She is my mom and dad.”

Therefore, Ahmaad, who got his first basketball hoop at age two, intends to play in the big leagues – and then some.

“I don’t just want to make it to the NBA,” he said. “I want to be a star.”
