Meet Billie Edwards
Lakes High honor graduate is flying high as she heads off to the Air Force Academy with plans of becoming a pilot.
Whiz Kid's name: Billie Rae Edwards
Whiz Kid's age: 18
Whiz Kid's school: Lakes High School
Whiz Kid's accomplishment: Billie, a 2011 honor graduate, is off to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., in the fall, where she plans to study behavioral science. During her time at Lakes, she was involved with ASB, concert and studio choirs and played on the varsity golf team. Billie was also a member of the Lakewood Youth Council and skated with the Lakewood Winter Club. She is a snowboarding and hiking aficionado who plays the piano and guitar.
Whiz Kid's key to awesomeness: Billie credits her parents for her successes both in and out of school. “They always pushed me to try my hardest and to try new things,” she said.
That determination and drive led her to the Air Force Academy, ranked by such publications as Forbes as one of the top 10 colleges in the nation. In Colorado, Billie will embark upon her lifelong dream of becoming a pilot.

“I see myself retiring from the Air Force as a commissioned officer in 25 years,” she said, calling the Academy a school with “many opportunities.”
Billie said that her favorite moments of her senior year were going on trips with Lakes’ Studio and Concert Choirs and working with the school’s leadership team.
