Whiz Kid's name: Brian Milas

Whiz Kid's age: 16

Whiz Kid's school: Lakewood Career Academy

Whiz Kid's accomplishment: Brian is Lakewood Career Academy’s student-body president for the spring semester.

After graduating from high school, he plans to go on to college and study aerospace engineering.

Whiz Kid's key to awesomeness: Brian got his start in student government when his biology teacher, Teresa Norton, suggested that he might have an affinity for such a role.

“She was constantly on my back telling me how good I would be at it, and that I was a natural leader,” he said. “So I decided that I should try it out. Now, I’m president of what really is my favorite school that I have ever attended, and I love it.”

Brian said that his favorite thing about student government is the ability to make things happen.

“If the students want a blood drive, I’m there, helping to schedule and organize the event.”

He said that knowing he is doing something good for his school “is why I enjoy it so much.”

Brian said that he has benefitted from doing well in school, but not just in the classroom. Like any successful politician, he knows the value of good people skills.

“The key is being friendly to everyone that is at the school,” he said, “and simply being on good terms with everyone.”
