Meet Christian and Kandyce Walters

Beachwood Elementary fourth-graders are known for their giving spirit — and they don't let allergies get in the way.

Whiz Kid's name: Christian and Kandyce Walters

Whiz Kid's age:
9

Whiz Kid's school:

Whiz Kid's accomplishment:
In addition to working hard to keep their grades up and being active members of the Boys/Girl Scouts, the Walters twins are dedicated to serving their community. Their civic projects include serving meals at least twice a month at the Tacoma Rescue Mission and taking up collections of pillows and blankets for Blankets For Love and the Pierce County Humane Society.

Whiz Kid's key to awesomeness: The Walters twins have a true appreciation for all that they have, said Beachwood teacher Kathy Ayers, who had Christian and Kandyce in her third-grade class last year. Because of that awareness, they want to share and give back to others. The twins’ passion for helping others is contagious — their involvement with the Tacoma Rescue Mission got their parents interested in volunteering, too. Additionally, they help each other. Christian has a severe citrus allergy, so when it is being served at the mission, Kandyce takes over.

“Kandyce and Christian Walters really are role models for the rest of us,” Ayers said.
