Whiz Kid's accomplishment: Levonte, a senior, has played a key role in the Lancers football team’s outstanding season, in which they went undefeated in regular play (5-0 in the 3A South Puget Sound League and 10-0 overall) and won last week’s state play-in game against Nathan Hale of Seattle. Friday, the Lancers face Mountain View of Vancouver, and Levonte, a running back, is ready for the Thunder.

He has scored 20 touchdowns so far this season – averaging 11 yards per carry – including four against Nathan Hale. To date, he has racked up 867 rushing yards and another 212 receiving yards in his final season with the Lancers – and the season isn’t over.

As a junior in 2010, Levonte ran for 1,993 yards – averaging more than 11 yards per carry – and scored 21 touchdowns. He also has been a sprinter on Lakes’ track team the last two seasons, placing 14th at the 2011 West Central District District meet in the 200-meter race.

After high school, Levonte aspires to continue his football career at either a Division I or I-AA college. Among those in which he has expressed interest are Washington, Washington State, Eastern Washington, BYU and California. He has yet to decide on a major.

“I plan on going on to the next level to play football, wherever it is,” he said.

Whiz Kid's key to awesomeness: Levonte, who carries a full course load at Lakes, said that he works hard to stay strong throughout the season by lifting weights every day. “Not many teams do that, so I’m a step ahead when it comes to a defender versus me,” he said.

As a senior, he said he is seeing his previous years of hard work paying off.

“You have tons more drive than in years past,” he said.

As for his favorite thing about this being his final year, Levonte said he likes being looked up to.

“It’s by everyone,” he said. “Youth football players, fans, teammates, family members – all of them.”
