Meet Yujin Lee
Clover Park senior's passion for drawing results in her winning library's writing and art competition.
Whiz Kid's name: Yujin Lee
Whiz Kid's age: 19
Whiz Kid's school: Clover Park High School
Whiz Kid's accomplishment: Yujin, a senior, won the 11th and 12th-grade drawing category in the Pierce County Library System’s teen writing and art competition, called “Our Own Expressions.” Among the 987 contest entries were poetry, short stories and photographs. Yujin is the president of Clover Park’s Art Club and a member of the school’s Army JROTC program. She will graduate with honors in June and plans to study chemistry at the University of Washington.
Whiz Kid's key to awesomeness: Yujin, who immigrated to the United States when she was a freshman, studied at a private art institute as a child in her homeland of Korea. When she enrolled at Clover Park, she said that the language barrier initially presented a challenge. “But I realized that art has the power that every person can understand it, no matter what country they are from,” she said.
