2 Dead In Lakewood After Fight Over Rent: Police

One man shot his roommate in Lakewood Monday after a dispute over rent. Then he asked a friend to help him remove the body.

LAKEWOOD, WA - Two men died Monday night in a murder-suicide that apparently began with a dispute over rent, according to Lakewood police. Police responded to the Woodbrook Mobile Home Park after a third person - a friend of the shooter - called 911 to report a possible murder.

At 10:14 p.m., the 911 caller told dispatchers that his friend had asked for help disposing of a body. The 911 caller refused to help, so the suspected shooter said he was going to commit suicide. The 911 caller was able to give police a description of the mobile home and the suspect's car. Police were on scene by 10:31 p.m.

"He said, 'I made a mistake, killed my roommate over rent money. Can you help me remove and hide the body?'" the 911 caller told police, Lakewood Lt. Chris Lawler said.

Because of the volatile situation, the SWAT team was called to the scene. When they breached the mobile home, they found the 49-year-old victim dead of multiple gunshot wounds. The suspected shooter, a 47-year-old man, had what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Lawler said.

Lakewood detectives are still investigating the matter to see if there might be another motive behind the incident.
