Pierce County Deputy Seriously Hurt In Head-On Crash

BREAKING: The deputy was hurt in a crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Parkland.

PARKLAND, WA - A Pierce County Sheriff's deputy was injured in a serious head-on crash in Parkland Tuesday afternoon.

Central Pierce Fire and Rescue reported that the deputy, 34, was "alert" after he was removed from his cruiser, but was being transported to a local hospital for treatment with serious injuries. The accident happened along the 600 block of Tule Lake Road South.

According to reports, a pickup truck tried to pass another vehicle around a corner, and may have slid on ice, striking the deputy's car head-on. The driver may be cited for negligent driving - although reports from the scene indicate that the driver stayed at the scene and tried to help the deputy after the accident.

The deputy was reportedly a school resource officer in the Bethel School District.
