Pierce Deputies Save Driver From Nightmare Scenario

At 6:20 a.m., this driver suddenly found herself broke down and causing a traffic jam - until Pierce County deputies arrived.

SPANAWAY, WA - This is any driver's nightmare: you're commuting to work in the usual morning rush hour traffic. Just as you make a turn across a big intersection, your car just shuts down. Now you're blocking hundreds of stressed drivers - and you're probably going to be late for work.

That happened to a local resident named Lynn recently. She was heading north along SR 7 and her car broke down as she was making a turn onto Military Road - not the sleepiest intersection in Pierce County.

Luckily, two Pierce County deputies - one who was off duty - came to Lynn's rescue, blocking her from being hit oncoming traffic, and pushing her car to the side of the road. She was so grateful, she wrote a thank-you email to the department.

Here's what Lynn wrote:

I would like to thank the two deputies that came to my rescue this morning. I was on my way to work traveling north on Pacific Ave turning onto Military road, half way through the light my car died. I was able to coast to the outside lane in front of Jack in the Box blocking morning traffic. After calling AAA they let me know a tow truck would be there by 7:57 AM, it was 6:20 AM!
One of your deputies pulled in behind me blocking anyone from rear ending me and asked if I was okay After explaining what happened he asked me to try and start my car, it still wouldn’t start. Deputy J. Maas told me he’d be right back. A few minutes later he told me another deputy would be here shortly. The second deputy arrived and they were able to push my vehicle into a safe place. I was so relieved and happy I could have cried.
We live in a society that is quick to find the negative but overlook the everyday kindness shown by your deputies. Thank you so much for the kindness and assistance your deputies gave me today.
A quick side note: Deputy Maas was off duty and still stopped to help. That says so much about who he is.
