Pierce Deputy Injured After Driver Crosses 5 Lanes
The driver told police that something hit him - but they beg to differ.

PARKLAND, WA - A Pierce County deputy suffered minor injuries after a wreck with a hit-and-run driver over the weekend.
The crash happened around 7 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and 116th Street, just south of the SR 512 on-ramps. The 62-year-old driver allegedly hit the deputy after ignoring the stop sign at 116th and Pacific Avenue and crossing five lanes.
The driver, who was operating a Mazda CX-5 SUV, drove away from the scene westbound on 116th. A Washington State Patrol officer near the scene spotted the fleeing Mazda and pursued it to the intersection of 116th and A Street South.

"Something hit me," the driver told police during his arrest.
The suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but was later booked into the Pierce County Jail on a charge of felony hit-and-run.

The deputy was OK, but she has lingering pain in her neck and back, according to the sheriff's office.
