The Pierce County Redistricting Committee is scheduled to make a decision on a new plan that sets the districts for the next 10 years. Under the proposal, Joint Base Lewis-McChord would be separate from neighboring communities of Lakewood and DuPont.

Pierce County's new voting districts will be set for the next 10 years tonight.

A redistricting committee is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. at the Pierce County Council Chambers, although officials say the meeting will be crowded, as Republicans who don't like the plan are expected to voice their concerns.

The Council Chambers are located at the County-City Building, 930 Tacoma Ave. S., Room 1045.

Under the proposal, Joint Base Lewis-McChord would be separate from neighboring communities of Lakewood and DuPont. and the rest of the area west of the Tacoma Narrows, instead joining Lakewood and Tacoma.

Technically, that would mean of University Place, the current District 7 representative, would be living outside the district he represents.
