Tacoma Police have identified the police detective who ended the 11-hour standoff last Thursday.

TACOMA, WA - A police spokesperson has revealed the identity of the SWAT sharpshooter who killed the man suspected of shooting and killing Officer Reginald "Jake" Gutierrez last week.
Pierce County Sheriff's spokesperson Ed Troyer told the Tacoma News-Tribune Tuesday that the sharpshooter is Detective Robert Shaw, 37, a 15-year veteran of Tacoma Police.

Shaw killed Gutierrez' suspected killer, Bruce R. Johnson II, early last Thursday with a single shot. That action ended an 11-hour standoff with police, and freed two young children who were in the home with Johnson.
The situation began around 5 p.m. last Wednesday when Gutierrez and another officer responded to a home on Tacoma's East Side on a report of a domestic dispute. Gutierrez entered the home and apparently tried to talk to Johnson, who was in a room on the second floor. Gutierrez, 45, was shot and killed, but was able to warn his partner and another resident of the home to get out.
