Watch: Plane Makes Emergency Landing On Spanaway Highway
A Washington State Patrol trooper's dash cam caught the moment a single-seat plane made an emergency landing in Pierce County.

SPANAWAY, WA — A single-seat plane made an emergency landing Thursday morning along SR 7 in Spanaway after an equipment malfunction, and the miraculous event was captured on a Washington State Patrol trooper's dashboard camera.
The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. when pilot David Acklam experienced a malfunction with his KR2 kit plane's fuel system. Luckily, one side of the usually-busy SR 7 was clear of traffic. Acklam touched down in the center turn lane before pulling into the traffic lanes. He was able to stop the plane just short of a stop light.
Acklam then pulled the plane into the parking lot of a nearby JiffyLube. Stunned drivers got out of their cars to check on the pilot, but no one was injured.

"While on patrol in east Pierce county, Trooper Thompson just happened to be in the right place at the right time and witnessed the plane make an emergency landing. WSP had no prior knowledge of the pilot’s complications. After 21 years with the patrol, this is a first for him," Trooper Johnna Batiste said of the incident.
