Snow: It's About to Come Down

If you're wondering what the city of Lakewood has been doing to prepare for the upcoming Snow Storm, here are some bulleted points from Don Wickstrom, director of public works. There's an anticipated 6-14 inches of snow on Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Deisree Winkler, the city's transportation division manager, told Patch just one piece of advice about Lakewood residents getting around:

"I think they should just stay home!" Wrinkler exclaimed.

Because of the city's limited manpower, public works staff will only be plowing Bridgeport Way, Gravelly Lake and South Tacoma Way, Winkler said. That means residential streets could be a nightmare for motorists.

• The City has been working 24-hours per day since Saturday evening.

• The city has a storm incident team led by the the Public Works Operations and Maintenance division.

• Contact Public Works Operation Maintenance at 253-267-1628 for non-emergency road condition information. These phones will be staffed 24-hours per day until the end of the storm event.

• The City has sufficient salt, sand, and brine on-hand for this upcoming event.

• Crews have been plowing major roadways and applying brine and salt to help prevent icy roadways.

• The city has a total of three plows that will be focusing on three main roadways: Bridgeport Way, Steilacoom Boulevard and South Tacoma Way during the heaviest of the snow fall.

• National Weather Service predicts 5-14 inches of snow in Tacoma area starting after midnight tonight.
