Spring Sports Previews are on the Way

Patch is an online publication that includes covering high school sports. This week I'm visiting Clover Park and Lakes' campuses and will be speaking to coaches and players about the new spring season.

A new season always brings a smile to my face, and I'm eager about highlighting the spring sports in the Lakewood community.

These next few days I will be writing spring previews for the Clover Park Warriors' teams. Next week I will be canvassing Lakes High School. If you haven't already looked, check out our awesome coverage of Clover Park and Lakes winter sports. We arguably covered Warriors and Lancers sports more than any other publication.

But because I won't be able to cover each sporting event for both schools, I will be writing two new standing features called Athlete of the Week and Captain's Log. I'd like to hear your thoughts. Additionally, I will be writing features on the players that excel in their sport as the season progresses.

Athlete of the Week

Lakewood Patch will profile a new Athlete of the Week every Monday starting March 21. We will solicit nominations from the coaches and players of each individual sport. Players will be judged based on their performance on and off the field. If you would like to nominate a high school athlete please send me:

• First and last name
• The sport they compete in
• The year in high school
• Their position
• Why you believe they should be selected for Athlete of the Week: (make a case based on their performance on the field and off the field).

Captain's Log

Captain's log is a new standing feature that follows an individual team captain from the beginning of the season to the end. The goal is better understand the intricacies of being a team captain and the challenges he or she faces on a week-to-week basis.

There will be two captains, one for Clover Park and the other for Lakes. Patch will make a formal announcement next week on who the they will be.
