State Wrestling, Swimming Wrap Up
Lakes senior Matt Archer qualifies to championship heat in two events while senior wrestler Justus Strong-Ricco and freshman Kiaya Van Scoyoc place third at Mat Classic state tournament.

The Lakes Lancers were represented at the 3A state swim and dive
championships in Federal Way on Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center by Matt Archer, a senior.
Archer competed in the A-Final of both the 100-yard freestyle and 200 free,
finishing in seventh place in both.
In the 100 free, Archer finished only a tenth of a second behind the
sixth-place swimmer with a time of 48.39 seconds.
In the 200 free, Archer swam a 1:46.00
With his two finishes, the senior earned 24 points for the Lancers.

Lakes senior 125-pound wrestler Justus Strong-Ricco finished his high school career with a third-place finish in the Class 3A Mat Classic state tournament at the Tacoma Dome this past Friday and Saturday with a close 5-4 victory against freshman Aaron Blaine of Hudson's Bay.
Teammate Kenny Griggs (119) pinned Rad Krysa of Decatur before earning a fourth-place finish after falling to Everett's Jesse Lopez in the consolation round. in the heavyweight division, Lakes' Eddie Releford beat Kelso's Drake Pettit 11-2 for fourth place.

In the girls competition, undefeated freshman Kiaya Van Scoyoc finally met her match against Interlake senior Brandae Grein. In the semifinal contest, Grein pinned Scoyoc just before the end of the opening round. Van Scoyoc ended up pinning Jessy Christensen of Puyallup for a third-place finish. Clover Park senior Angelica Mejia (145) took home an eighth-place medal, respectively, in her first state wrestling appearance.
Overall, the Lakes wrestling team placed 11th with 54 points as Enumclaw won the 3A state championship with 145.5 points and Clover Park placed 46th.
