The Tacoma Community College Symphonic Band will perform a free concert Thursday at TCC Building 3. Saxophonist Fred Winkler will be featured with the band, performing the Northwest premiere of Paul Richards' "Bat Out of Hell."
A big community event affecting Lakewood takes place in Fife this weekend. The RAGS Wearable Art Sale takes over the Larson Mercedes-Benz dealership with booths from local jewelry and clothing makers to benefit YWCA- Pierce County programs runs three days.
Tacoma Opera presents “Trouble in Tahiti,” by Leonard Bernstein and “Pagliacci” by Ruggero Leoncavallo Friday and Sunday at Tacoma’s Pantages Theater. The double bill will be sung in English and Italian with projected English translation.

For something a bit less cultured, the Toxic Spill Roller Derby Bout is set for Saturday at Wheelz Skate Arena in Fircrest. This is first bout by Tacoma's newest roller derby league Toxic 253. The night will begin with a demonstration by Poison Ivy's Junior Derby, followed by a bout between the ladies of Toxic 253 and The Rainy City Roller Dolls B team and will finish with a thrilling men's scrimmage.
And one extra thing to consider, Lakewood Historical Society will have a program at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and School on March 15, “Raising Cain: The Life and Times of Senator Harry P. Cain,” with author C. Mark Smith reviewing his book, released in 2010, about former Tacoma Mayor and Senator Cain.
