Towne Center Car Prowls: Lakewood Police Make Arrests

Just one day after announcing a policy change to respond to a rash of car prowls, police have made several arrests.

LAKEWOOD, WA - Police believe they have arrested a suspect at the center of a rash of car prowls that have hit the city recently, in particular the area around the Towne Center shopping district.

On Monday morning, a Lakewood officer saw two women acting suspiciously in a parking lot near 100th Street and Bridgeport Way Southwest. The officer discovered that the car they were in was reported stolen out of Seattle.

After their arrest, the women told police that a 27-year-old man who was staying in a motel in Fife was responsible for the recent rash of car prowls in Lakewood - as many as 34 since Jan. 15. Police served a search warrant on the man's motel room on Monday night and recovered a large amount of stolen property.
