Track & Field: Clover Park Preview

Boys team look to defend West Central District 3A title while girls look to improve upon last year's lack of success.

Boys Team

Clover Park finished 5-3 in the South Puget Sound League 3A and were crowned West Central District champions, but have since dropped to the SPSL 2A.

"We are very young," said Clover Park head coach Kyle Hagman. "We are going to ask some young men to grow up." He added that they are quick and will compete against some high-level competition.

"We are going to focus on fundamentals and improving from week to week."

  • Track & field meets to watch out for

Hagman said all the team's meets will be competitive and their only true dual meet is against Steilacoom on April 14.

  • Returning players


Isom Brown - Brown's personal best last season was in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.81 seconds in the Western Cascade Conference/SPSL sub-district meet and 43.43 in the 300 hurdles against Auburn Mountainview on April 22.

Bret Dulay - Dulay ran a 11.90 in the 100 on April 29 against White River and a 24.65 during the same meet. In the 110 hurdles, he ran a 17.04 and a 47.69 in the 300 in a SPSL JV meet.

Travis Pate - Pate competes in the distance running. His persaonal best last season was 4:57.40 in the 1,600 against Peninsula and 10:59.95 in the 3,200 in the same meet on May 6.

Malcolm Brown - Brown ran a 11.72 on May 7 two years ago against Lakes and Peninsula during a double dual meet and a 23.70 on April 10 against Timberline.

Kyle Hagman has been with the team for 10 years and this is his sixth year as a head coach.

Girls Team

  The Warriors' girls track & field team were winless with an 0-8 record in the SPSL 3A.

Hagman said building a team atmosphere and gelling the young and veteran athletes.

Jasmin Chatters - Chatters ran a 14.39 in the 100 on April 29 against White River and a 29.48 in the 200 on May 6 against Peninsula.

Yadira Lopez - Lopez earned a 2:47.51 in the 800 against Peninsula on May 6 and a 5:54.53 in the 1,600 on May 6 during the same meet.

Brooke Newhardt - Earned a mark of 8 feet, 6 inches on May 1 in the 50th annual Shelton Invite.
