Whiz Kid: Meet Ashton Dart

1. Name: Ashton Dart

2. Age: 18

3. School: Clover Park High School

4. Accomplishments: Ashton graduated with honors from Clover Park and also was on the Dean’s List at Pierce College every quarter she was there as a Running Start student, except the winter 2012 quarter, when she made the President’s List.

At Clover Park, she sang in the choir for three years, was a Daffodil Princess candidate and was involved with student government and leadership. She also volunteered as a math tutor at Tyee Park Elementary School, which she called a wonderful experience.

Next year, Ashton will head to the University of Washington, where she will study either psychology or education.

5. Keys to her success: Having a strong support system helped Ashton throughout high school. They provided her with advice, participation, and, of course, love, as she juggled her classes – at two schools once she started working on her associate’s degree – working and extracurricular activities.

“My friends and family stuck with me through everything, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them,” she said. “They helped me believe in myself when things got unbearably tough.”

6. Best high-school memories: While Ashton said she loved attending football and basketball games and dances, as well as emceeing a school assembly, some of her favorite memories come from hanging out at Denny’s with a big group of friends after a game or a dance.

“Everyone met up for some food, friends and lots of fun,” she said. “I made lots of memories (there) and I can surely say those were my favorite moments of senior year."
