You Can Volunteer in the Summer Too!

All during the school year, there is a drive in Lakewood to recruit volunteers to work with young people. More often than not, these volunteers (mentors) are recruited for the purpose of helping kids achieve in school. Tutoring, homework help, and career planning come to mind. For some adults, this is a great fit while others can't commit for various reasons. Now the school year is wrapping up; homework is done; the report cards will be printed soon. Yet believe it or not, summer programs need volunteers too! And, summer programs are most likely looking for different kinds of mentors to work with kids in "summer mode". The Boys and Girls Club will be bursting at the seams with kids, There are all sorts of activities at the YMCA. The Computer Clubhouse is embracing the "maker movement" and needs creative adults. Caring for Kids will be preparing all summer for their Ready To Learn Fair, while food banks and free lunch programs from the Clover Park School District and St Leo's will be working hard to serve the basic needs of our youth. Summer is a great time to get involved. Lakewood kids require safe, happy, and meaningful summers as much as they need a successful school year. How can you help to make this so.
