📰 News we're reading
• South Whidbey group funds fireworks advisory vote (whidbeynewstimes.com) — Langley residents won't get a say in this November's advisory vote on banning consumer fireworks, because it's limited to unincorporated Island County. Local advocates and officials debate whether excluding cities like Langley, Oak Harbor and Coupeville is fair, even as Langley's own 2020 fireworks ban is cited as a largely successful example.
• No Quarter, Assassins, Illuminate, and more (heraldnet.com) — Island Shakespeare Festival is wrapping up its Langley season with Macbeth, Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest, and improv shows on its outdoor forest stage off Maxwelton Road, all offered pay-what-you-will. Visitors can enjoy picnicking, a beer and wine garden, swordfight demos, and special ISF Beyond events through Labor Day weekend, with additional improv performances continuing into early September.
