1. Rotary Club of Longview Announces $1 Million in New Donations for Martin Dock—Classic Hits 100.7 KLOG News (klog.com) — Longview's Rotary Club has secured more than $1 million in new donations to rebuild Martin Dock at Lake Sacajawea, bringing the multiyear project close to its $3–4 million goal. Major gifts from local families, a foundation, and JH Kelly Construction will fund a new pavilion, extended boardwalk, and kayak launch. Fundraising continues, but construction has not yet been scheduled.
2. By the numbers: Longview's proposal to phase out car tabs fee explained (tncontentexchange.com) — Longview officials are weighing a plan to gradually eliminate the city's $40 car tab fee by replacing it with two small sales tax increases, starting with a council vote on Oct. 8. If the council and later voters approve both phases, residents could see the fee disappear by 2028 while transportation funding for local street repairs actually rises.
3. Domestic Violence Assault Suspect Arrested After Standoff In Kelso (kxl.com) — Longview police first responded to a serious domestic violence assault in Longview early Monday, before the suspect fled to Kelso and triggered a multi-agency standoff. Officers used license plate cameras to track the vehicle, contained a Kelso residence, and ultimately arrested the suspect without injuries after SWAT was activated. He now faces multiple felony domestic violence and harassment charges.
4. Western District of Washington (uscourts.gov) — Residents under federal supervision in Longview have a local drug-testing site at Columbia Wellness on 14th Avenue, with instructions to call a nightly phone line to learn whether they must report the next day. The schedule system runs every evening, and those assigned to the Longview location receive specific reporting times and directions through the automated message.
5. Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez Introduces Legislation to Support Veterans' Right to Build Their Own Homes (house.gov) — A Longview-based veterans nonprofit, HEVIN, is backing new bipartisan legislation to let rural veterans use VA loans to build their own homes, with blueprints and technical help included. The bill, led by Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, aims to cut red tape, speed up permits, and support domestic timber while staying budget neutral. It could expand housing options for veterans across rural Washington and beyond.
