1. MI's Senior Social Seminar program continues on Sept. 29 (mi-reporter.com) — Mercer Island seniors are invited to a free "Food, Mood & Function" seminar at the Community and Event Center on Sept. 29, with coffee, tea, and snacks provided and no registration needed. The city's monthly Senior Social Seminar series shares practical topics from tech safety to decluttering, and organizers say it's become a relaxed way to learn, connect, and build community.
   

2. Mercer Island Mid-Autumn Festival Carnival returns Sept. 20 (mi-reporter.com) — Mercer Island families can enjoy a free Mid-Autumn Festival Carnival at the Community & Event Center on Sept. 20, with no registration required. Co-hosted by the Mercer Island Chinese Association and the city, the event features cultural performances, hands-on activities, games, and food trucks, all aimed at celebrating Chinese traditions and welcoming neighbors of every background.
   

3. Car cruising down bike trail on Seattle's I-90 bridge baffles troopers (chronline.com) — A driver was caught on video speeding along the I-90 bridge bike and pedestrian trail, entering from the Mercer Island side where there are currently no protective bollards. State Patrol and transportation officials are investigating how this happened and what safety changes might be needed, while stressing they don't want to restrict normal walking and biking access for Mercer Island trail users.
   

4. MIHS football notches victories (mi-reporter.com) — Mercer Island High School's football team has opened the season with wins over Oak Harbor and Redmond, building momentum for upcoming matchups. Islanders fans can head to Bothell on Sept. 18 and then pack the home stands on Sept. 25 to support the team in back-to-back Friday night games.
   

5. 2026 Transportation Safety Laws Touch on E-Bikes, E-Motos, and Crash Prevention (mrsc.org) — New Washington transportation laws are prompting cities, including Mercer Island, to step up education around e-bikes, e-motos, and safe trail use. While Everett and Auburn are tightening local rules, Mercer Island is focusing on outreach so residents better understand what they can ride, where they can ride it, and how statewide crash-prevention efforts may shape future road safety.
