1. School board listening session focuses on potential bond, tech use (mi-reporter.com) — Mercer Island parents just heard early details on a proposed $35 million 2027 school bond that would repair aging systems, improve air quality, and address safety and accessibility at Mercer Island High School. At the same listening session, families also pressed district leaders about student screen time and AI, prompting calls for clearer, more human-centered technology policies in Mercer Island classrooms.
2. Priscilla Featherstone Obit (mi-reporter.com) — Mercer Island's Holy Trinity Lutheran Church community is preparing to honor longtime member and retired Bellevue elementary teacher Priscilla Ann Featherstone, who died in August. Loved for her generosity, outdoor adventures, and Norwegian baking, she leaves behind close family and many friends; a Celebration of Life is planned at Holy Trinity on October 17.
3. October events calendar (iexaminer.org) — An October events roundup includes a free Mercer Island program at the Stroum Jewish Community Center on October 25, exploring the Rock Springs Chinatown archaeology and the 1885 Chinese Massacre. You'll also find dozens of cultural festivals, workshops, and family activities across Seattle, Tacoma, and nearby cities throughout the month, many of them low-cost or free to attend.
